  • Dustin Hunt is a multi-disciplinary creative and educator. He received a bachelor of fine arts and graduate teaching certification from Michigan State University. Dustin took the road less traveled en route to higher education, however. Being the son of a single mother who saved enough tips to put herself through college and eventually opened her own interior design business while raising two boys, Dustin learned about perseverance and ingenuity early on. Dustin would expand his worldview at a pivotal age when his mother moved their little family to an apartment complex home to hundreds of international students and families at Michigan State University. Dustin developed a deep appreciation for community as families and classmates from all over the world looked out for, protected, and broke bread with his little family. During this time, classmates introduced Dustin to hip-hop. Fast forward a few years to the time Dustin dropped out of art school to explore hip-hop culture as a DJ and graffiti artist. Working with decent art and design sensibilities, Dustin took to graffiti quickly and became fluent in working big and fast. During this time, Dustin taught himself how to use Photoshop and Illustrator out of necessity to create flyers and posters to promote shows and album releases. After several years of exploring hip-hop, working odd jobs, and road-tripping, Dustin finally committed to pursuing higher education. At Michigan State University, he found ways to share and grow his knowledge of hip-hop as host and DJ of The Cultural Vibe, one of Michigan's longest-running hip-hop radio shows. Dustin's time as a hip-hop DJ and graffiti artist has shaped his pedagogy and continues to inform his practice as a creative and educator.
